Mandate of KVK

Conduct “On-Farm Testing” (OFT) for identifying technologies in terms of location specific sustainable land use systems.
Conduct Front Line Demonstrations (FLDs) on various crops to generate production data and feed back information
Organise short and long term vocational training courses in agricultural and allied vocationals for the farmers and rural youths with emphasis on ”learning by doing” for higher production on farms and generating self employment.
Organise training to update the extension personnel with emerging advances in agricultural research on regular basis.

THRUST AREAS OF KVK, BISHNUPUR:

Bishnupur district has a vast area under lakes and low-lying areas. Loktak lake (286sq.km), the biggest freshwater lake in NE region lies in between Bishnupur and Imphal West districts. More than 40% of the states fish production (18,600tonnes) is produced from Bishnupur district. As the district have large water resources and tremendous scope for fish production, the main thrust of the KVK in on fisheries. The following are thrust areas:

Diversification of aquaculture other than carp culture.

Open water enhancement of fisheries production.

Integrated aqua farming with agriculture, horticulture & livestock.

Integrated Nutrient Management in crops.

Integrated Pests and Diseases Management.

Increased production of milk, meat and eggs.

To increase vegetable production by scientific package of practices.

Objectives:

1.To demonstrate the new improved technology to the farmers as well as to the extension agency directly in the farmers field with their active participation.

2.To identify the area specific problems of the farmers and prioritization of the identified problems as per their importance.

3.To collect feedback from farmers and extension agencies and to provide linkages with scientists for the modification or refinement of technology.

4.To impart training to the farmers, rural youth and extension functionaries for capacity building.

5.To provide new and important information on agriculture and allied sectors to the extension agencies or NGO’s for wider circulation to improve their economic condition.

6.To prepare different extension models and verify these models in the farmers field with their participation to create confidence among them.
